COMPETITION OVERVIEW

AMC (American Mathematics Competitions) is an international mathematics competition organized by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA). Its full name is the American Mathematics Competitions. As one of the most popular high school mathematics competitions in North America, AMC attracts more than 300,000 students each year. It is also one of the most prestigious mathematics competitions, with a large number of participants worldwide.

Our school is an officially authorized AMC Europe test center and provides on-site AMC 8, AMC 10, and AMC 12 examinations for currently enrolled students.

COMPETITION LEVELS

AMC is mainly divided into the following levels based on grade and difficulty:
AMC 8: Designed for students in Grade 8 and below who are no older than 14.5 years old. The exam consists of 25 multiple-choice questions and lasts 40 minutes.
AMC 10: Designed for students in Grade 10 and below who are no older than 17.5 years old. The exam consists of 25 multiple-choice questions and lasts 75 minutes.
AMC 12: Designed for students in Grade 12 and below who are no older than 19.5 years old. The exam consists of 25 multiple-choice questions and lasts 75 minutes.
AIME: The American Invitational Mathematics Examination. Students who achieve outstanding results in AMC 10 or AMC 12 may be invited to advance to AIME, which is significantly more challenging.

COMPETITION AWARDS

All awards are determined based on the global percentile ranking of participants. The official award cut-off scores for each year are announced by the MAA after the competition.

AMC 8 has a maximum score of 25 points and consists of 25 multiple-choice questions. Each correct answer is worth 1 point, while incorrect or unanswered questions receive no penalty.

  • Perfect Score: A full score of 25 points
  • Honor Roll of Distinction (DHR): Top 1% of participants worldwide
  • Honor Roll (HR): Top 5% of participants worldwide
  • Achievement Roll (AR): Students in Grade 6 or below who score 15 points or higher

Reference scores from previous years: the global top 1% generally scored approximately 22–24 points, while the global top 5% generally scored approximately 18–21 points. Cut-off scores vary each year depending on the difficulty of the competition and are provided for reference only.

AMC 10 has a maximum score of 150 points and consists of 25 multiple-choice questions. Each correct answer is worth 6 points, each unanswered question is worth 1.5 points, and each incorrect answer receives 0 points.

  • Perfect Score: A full score of 150 points
  • Honor Roll of Distinction (DHR): Top 1% of participants worldwide
  • Distinction: Top 5% of participants worldwide
  • Honor Roll Top 10%: Top 10% of participants worldwide
  • Honor Roll Top 25%: Top 25% of participants worldwide
  • Certificate of Achievement: Students in Grade 8 or below who score 90 points or higher
  • AIME Qualification: Students who score 100 points or higher qualify for the AIME

AMC 12 has a maximum score of 150 points and consists of 25 multiple-choice questions. Each correct answer is worth 6 points, each unanswered question is worth 1.5 points, and each incorrect answer receives 0 points.

  • Perfect Score: A full score of 150 points
  • Honor Roll of Distinction (DHR): Top 1% of participants worldwide
  • Distinction: Top 5% of participants worldwide
  • Honor Roll Top 10%: Top 10% of participants worldwide
  • Honor Roll Top 25%: Top 25% of participants worldwide
  • Certificate of Achievement: Students in Grade 10 or below who score 90 points or higher
  • AIME Qualification: Students who score 85 points or higher qualify for the AIME

REGISTRATION PROCESS

  • After completing the payment, please make sure to add your program advisor and provide the candidate registration information as required.
  • We will submit candidate information to the organizer on the 1st and 15th of each month. If either date falls on a public holiday, submission will be postponed accordingly. For examinations with an approaching deadline, we will arrange expedited processing.
  • The examination date, format, requirements, and other details are subject to the official notice issued by the organizer. If you have any questions, please consult your program advisor.
  • All examination notices will be sent by email. Please ensure that the email address you provide is accurate to avoid missing important notifications.
  • Examination results and awards are generally announced within 4–8 weeks after the examination. The exact release date is subject to the organizer’s official notice. Additional production and shipping fees may apply for printed certificates and medals for certain competitions.
